Grab Philippines, Southeast Asia’s leading transport app, gave various livelihood skills training to over 100 housewives of GrabTaxi and GrabCar drivers, particularly in management of small enterprises.
After the training, participants will participate as independent business entrepreneurs in an upcoming Christmas Noel Bazaar sponsored by Grab from November 18 to 30 at the World Trade Center in Manila.
The skills development program at the Negoskwela Livelihood Training Facility in Quezon City taught women from different parts of Metro Manila family planning, financial literacy and establishing micro businesses.
Khriz Lim, Grab Philippines’ country marketing head, said the initiative was an expansion of Grab’s Driver Academy, a road education program to up-skill Grab drivers on customer service and safety driving.
“We want to make sure that we’re helping not just the drivers but also their families, as such the company has expanded its mission to include the drivers’ own partners—their wives. Initiatives like these are very valuable as they provide long-term benefits to the family. More than capacity building, the program is meant to underscore the women’s primary contributions to the welfare of the family,” Lim said.
Among others, the training gave participants courses in Pinoy Street Food, Lutuing Pinoy Para Sa Karinderya, Merienda Pang Pinoy, Foot and Hand Spa with Manicure and Pedicure, Gift Wrapping and Recycled Bags and Other Items.
The program also included tips on practical money management.
“It’s always smart to include financial literacy in any livelihood program. As we promote the growth of our partners’ livelihoods, we must also help them develop skills like budgeting and saving if ever they start small businesses,” Lim said.
Grab lays claim to being Southeast Asia’s leading ride-hailing platform. “We solve critical transportation challenges and make transport freedom a reality for 620-million people in Southeast Asia,” its statement said.
Grab began as a taxi-hailing app in 2012, but extended its product platform to include private car services (GrabCar) and last-mile delivery (GrabExpress). It is focused on pioneering new commuting alternatives for drivers and passengers with an emphasis on speed, safety and reliability. The Company currently offers services in Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.
