The Senate Committee on Ethics tackled the complaint against Senator Leila de Lima that accused her of having links to illegal drug trade.
The complaint was filed by a certain lawyer Abelardo De Jesus.
The senators, however, failed to resolve the issue on whether or not the committee has jurisdiction over the case.
Senate Majority Leader and Ethics Committee Chairman Vicente Sotto III says, the lawmakers may vote on the matter of jurisdiction next week.
“We should act on it as soon as possible,” he said.
The matter on jurisdiction was raised by Senator Franklin Drilon.
Senator Panfilo Lacson stressed the importance of deciding if the complaint complies with sufficiency in substance.
Atty. Karen Jimeno served as general counsel for the committee.
She said, the complaint’s form and substance must first be determined before the question on jurisdiction.
De Lima had previously described the complaint as another harassment tactic lodged against her by her enemies.
