Duterte: Misuari wants to hold peace talks in Malaysia

President Rodrigo Duterte talked with Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) Founding Chairman Nur Misuari on the telephone on Tuesday night.

During his speech on Wednesday morning at the NAIA Terminal 2, Duterte reported that Misuari wants the peace talks between the Duterte administration and the Moro rebels to take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

He recalled telling Misuari, “dalian mo (hurry up), Nur. We are wasting lives here.”

The two agreed that the peace panels may only need two days to sign a memorandum of agreement promising to pursue the peace process in Mindanao.

Misuari has a pending warrant of arrest for the Zamboanga siege in 2013.

Duterte expressed hope Misuari won’t be arrested should the peace talks materialize, citing the MNLF leader’s important role in the negotiations.
