PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte on Monday named Chief Presidential Protocol Marciano Paynor Jr. as the new Philippine Ambassador to the United States.
Duterte also appointed Robert Borje to replace Paynor.
“[Paynor] accepted it. But he needs to be confirmed first by the Commission on Appointments,” Duterte told reporters at the Malacanang Heroes Hall.
A product of the Philippine Military Academy Batch 1971, Paynor is a seasoned diplomat and acknowledged expert on foreign service, and has taken up posts in Washington, DC, Gabon, Budapest, Rome, Israel, Cyprus, and Los Angeles where he was consul general.
Paynor also served as former President Benigno Aquino III’s protocol chief and headed the APEC National Organizing Council for last year’s APEC Summit in Manila.
