A partnership with Bantay Bata

Singapore Airlines forged another year of partnership with ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation to support Bantay Bata’s “Bantay Edukasyon” program. The airline and foundation kicked off the new school year with an opening assembly with the theme, “Edukasyon Ang Sandigan Tungo Sa Maunlad na Kinabukasan” (Education is the foundation towards a progressive future).

Singapore Airlines has been Bantay Bata’s sponsor for the last 13 years. Since 2003, the airline has provided financial support to children from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao with the help of the foundation. Support covers school supplies, transportation and allowances to assist the scholars in their educational needs. For the school year 2016-2017, the airline is pleased to welcome 128 scholars into the scheme.

“Year after year, we continue to collaborate with Bantay Bata because of the results we see. Our scholars’ remarkable achievements in school makes this program meaningful to us.” says Carol Ong, Singapore Airlines general manager. “In particular, we are really happy to see our scholars graduate and actively contribute in helping the next generation in the society,” she added.

A fourth grade student who lives and studies in Imus, Cavite said that the scholarship program has helped her in so many ways.  She said, “Natutulungan po ako na magawa yung mga kailangan ko sa school at mga projects (The program helps me accomplish my school requirements and my school projects).”

She wants to be a lawyer one day—to help people wrongfully accused and arrested, as well as victims of injustice—and has been, even in her young age, very precocious and intuitive. She has been consistently in the Top 3 of her batch.  She enjoys studying her favorite subjects, English, Science and Math.

“Sana madami pang matulungan na bata at marami pa sila masuportahan” (I hope they will continue to help and support many more children), said about SIA’s efforts to bring education to children who truly deserve a better future.

With this message, Singapore Airlines remains committed to be part of Bantay Edukasyon’s advocacy in changing the lives of the children.  Ong leaves a message to the scholars: “The sky is the limit, so always reach for the highest. All of you have wings for success.”
