If you look at the growing pay TV landscape, you will see that there is a strong demand for movie channels, particularly those that have been localized or sub-titled. Creating this demand is the acceptance of movies from different countries not only Hollywood, bringing down culture and language barriers.
To address this, Viva Communications, Inc. (VCI), in partnership with Celestial Tiger Entertainment, launched Celestial Movies Pinoy (CMP), a 24-hour pay TV channel featuring Chinese films dubbed in Tagalog.
VCI President and COO Vicente del Rosario III notes the success of the earlier launched Tagalized Movie Channel (October 2014), which also airs foreign films dubbed in Tagalog, “as a testament to a demand for Tagalized content.”
Celestial Movies Pinoy showcases the biggest blockbusters and the biggest stars in Asia. It combines the well-loved classics from past decades with their signature martial arts and fight sequences and the latest hit movies. CMP covers all film genres as well, from drama to romcom, action to thrillers – there’s something for every movie lover on the channel.
Airing this month is a great line-up – Somewhere Only We Know (2015) starring Kris Wu, who has already filmed nine movies in just two years, Blind Detective (2013) starring Andy Lau, My Lucky Star (2013) starring Zhang Zi Yi, and White-Haired Witch of Lunar Kingdom (2014) starring the multi-awarded actress Fan Bing Bing who joins co-star Huang Xiaoming (Zhuo Yihang) since their 2010 movie.
“Now that I have worked closely with him, I can declare he is my model actor… Through his eyes, I can hear him telling me to jiayou [do your best],” she said.
Huang Xiaoming, on the other hand, was impressed with her devotion to the role. “She had to film a scene where water was poured onto her. Although it was winter and she was wearing thin clothing, she tolerated the cold.”
Celestial Movies Pinoy can be seen on channel 12 on Cignal and will soon be available across pay TV stations nationwide.
