For the love month, Red Turnip presents the Asian premiere of Nick Payne’s romantic odyssey Constellations. This critically acclaimed play premiered in London back in 2012, and early this year, it premiered on Broadway with Jake Gyllenhaal and Ruth Wilson with seats sold out.
For the Asian premiere, featured performers are Aliw Award winner and three-time Gawad Buhay Award winner for Best Actress Cris Villonco, and rising star JC Santos who was recently nominated as Gawad Urian Best Actor nominee for his performance in the independent film Esprit De Corps. The play is directed by Rem Zamora, who had a successful run for Red Turnip’s Cock and Time Stands Still.
“There was no question that Cris Villonco was absolutely right for this role. She is a wonderful and intelligent actress of unparalleled range. She really is at the top of her game. I couldn’t think of any other young actress who would be able to navigate this very rich, complex script as she can,” says Zamora. “She also has a very easy chemistry with JC. The play can’t come to life if you don’t believe in these two characters and their relationship. I auditioned a lot of potential leading men for this role, and JC simply stood out because of his natural sensitivity and charm. He is an exciting new talent and I can’t wait for everyone to see what these two actors are going to bring to the table,” the director adds.
The play, which will debut in the newest entertainment hub, The Power Mac Spotlight Theater at the newly opened Circuit in Makati, will be a shift from the usual pieces that Red Turnip presents. “The Power Mac Spotlight Theater is a gorgeous new black box in a very accessible area in Makati. I couldn’t be happier to be finally getting around to what we had always wanted for our company. Constellations opens on February 12 and runs on weekends until March 6 at the Power Mac Center Spotlight Theater in Circuit Makati located at Level 2, Circuit Lane, A.P. Reyes Ave., Makati City.
