DepEd, Khan Academy launch math initiative

Iloilo City, Philippines — To boost student numeracy across the Philippines, the Department of Education (DepEd) partnered with the nonprofit organization Khan Academy to introduce a math-focused program nationwide.

The initiative, which aims to reinforce foundational math skills, is set to benefit 22,458 learners in Western Visayas alone, specifically those in Grades 1, 4, 5, and 7 from 68 selected schools in the region for School Year 2024–2025.
Khan Academy Philippines provides the essential tools for the program, including practical learning exercises, instructional videos, and personalized learning modules with dashboards to guide students’ progress.

DepEd Western Visayas Regional Director Dr. Ramir B. Uytico pledged that the regional office would diligently implement and monitor the program, aligning it with the goals of the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) to enhance learning outcomes.

This effort also supports local education frameworks, including the Regional Education Development Plan (REDP), Division Education Development Plans (DEDPs), and School Improvement Plans (SIPs).

School leaders will have access to real-time data and analytics to closely track learners’ progress.
