Acuna nails spot in PH shooting SEAG team

Amparo Teresa Acuna broke national records in two of her pet events over the last two weeks as she assured herself of a spot in the national shooting team.

The 24-year-old Acuna tallied totals of 620.4 and 620.5 during the two weekend trials of the women’s 10-meter rifle event at the Philippine Marine range inside the Ft. Bonifacio barracks in Makati City.

Her totals allowed Acuna to improve on her best performance of 616.5 back in 2018.

In the 3-position event of the 50-meter air rifle shootoff, Acuna accumulated 1149 points, which bettered her previous  national mark of 1146 in the 2019 Doha Asian Championships.

“Been doing good. We still have another round to go in the following weeks until we conclude, but so far I’m assured of a spot in the SEAG for topping my events,” said Acuna.

An Olympic Solidarity scholar, Acuna said she is gaining the confidence she needs as she prepares for action in the coming Southeast Asian Games.

Acuna said she is finally shaking off the rust that she felt following the long layoff since the country went in COVID-19 lockdowns in March, 2020.

“This is an assurance that I’m on the right track. Matagal na rin kaming nakapahinga,” said Acuna as members of the national team are now finally going into physical training activities.

Members of the national squad are now getting ready for their participation in the Philippine Open next month.

The Philippines placed third overall in shooting in the last SEA Games with three golds, three silvers and a bronze.
