At least 67 SM malls across the country participated in the launching of the nationwide synchronized mall registration on September 11 to accommodate more voter applicants ahead of the registration deadline by the end of the month.
SM Malls strictly implemented health and safety protocols and ensured easy access for registrants.
“We value not only the comfort and convenience of the public, but also the safety and security of everyone, especially in the last days of registration. That is why the Comelec is very grateful that we have joined the private sector and other government agencies in successfully achieving this goal,” Comelec Commissioner Aimee Ferolino-Ampoloquio said.
Comelec has been firm in rejecting proposals to extend the Sept. 30 deadline for voter registration.
Lawmakers have reminded the poll body that the 61.1 million registered voters for next year’s elections, based on Comelec’s data, is still far from the 73.3 million qualified voters identified by the Philippine Statistics Authority.
