The 28-year-old Rivera, who has been invited to join the Philippine national team for many years by Philippine Olympic Committee Committee president and cycling chief Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino himself, said she is happy for having gone this far.

“Never been more proud to fly the flag for the United States of America at the Tokyo Olympic Games. It has been quite the journey to get to this point, and it is really only getting started,” said Rivera in a message to her supporters on Facebook and in her personal blog.

Rivera, who has won 72 national titles in the US, is from Tustin, California. His  father Wally was  originally from Tondo before migrating to the US with her mom Lina, who is from Tuguegarao.

Rivera has been a professional cyclist since the age of 16.

The last time she visited the Philippines was back in 2018.
