Dutch fighter Reinier De Ridder wants to have three titles.
To get it, the 30-year-old De Ridder will have to get past ONE Championship heavyweight king Brandon Vera first.
And his bid to claim an unprecedented hat-trick of world championships in the Asian promotion is getting the support of ONE Championship founder, Thailand’s Chatri Sityodtong.
“I’m open to the idea of him going for three division titles. But we’ll have to see the result of Brandon Vera’s next fight,” said Sityodtong,
Vera, who lost to Aung La N Sang in October, 2019, is set to defend his heavyweight ONE Championship title on May 15.
It will be the main event of “ONE: Dangal”. This will be Vera’s third consecutive heavyweight title defense.
The undefeated De Ridder, who is on a roll after 14 fights, now has the light heavyweight belt after he won by unanimous decision over Aung last Wednesday.
It was his second belt after De Ridder snatched the middleweight title, also from Aung, also known as “The Burmese Python,” last October in Singapore.
Vera, known as the “The Truth”, is back fighting in the 205-pound category after his loss to Aung.
So far, Vera has won four of his ONE fights, three of which were championship fights. Peter Atencio
