Antoinette Jadaone’s Fan Girl, a coming-of-age film about an obsessed teenage girl who spent an unforgettable night with her idol, bagged the major awards in this year’s edition of The EDDYS or The Entertainment Editors’ Choice held virtually on Sunday.
Fan Girl took home the Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Sound, Best Editing, Best Actress for Charlie Dizon, Best Actor for Paulo Avelino, and Best Director for Jadaone.
In her acceptance speech, the award-winning director shared the Best Picture plum with all the nominees and all the films produced in 2020. She also underscored the relevance of Jane, the film’s heroine played by Dizon, in a modern society where human rights violations still remain rampant.
“Maraming salamat po sa matatapang na producers ng Fan Girl. We share this award with all the nominees in the Best Film [category] and with all the films produced in 2020 dahil isang tagumpay ito na hindi natin hinayaang mamatay ang industriya natin sa gitna ng pandemya. Sana ang Pilipinas na ipapamana natin sa mga kabataan ay parang si Jane sa Fan Girl na alam ang respeto sa kababaihan lalu na sa karapatang pantao,” Jadaone said alluding to the film’s heroine played by Charlie Dizon.
