Qing dynasty jars, Marilyn Monroe painting up for auction

Lhuillier-managed auction house Casa de Memoria opens its quarterly sale with a curated selection that consists of pieces from east and west, old-world and modern age.

One of the highlight items for bidding at Primero is a pair of Qing dynasty famille rose ginger jars with pedestals, with a starting bid of P420,000. The precious porcelain pieces are decorated with court scenes, while the wooden pedestals have scroll elements and claw feet.

Also must-see highlights are Primero’s selection of paintings from different eras that includes “Vase of Flowers” by Jose María Armengol Farré, “Joueur de flute et chevre” by Pablo Picasso, “Marilyn Monroe” by Andy Warhol, and “Toro y Toreros” by Salvador Dali. Prices of some start at P60,000.

A couple of vintage furniture are likewise going under the hammer, including a magnificent Italian paper desk in ebonized wood with ivory and bone inlay from the 19th century which has a starting bid of P360,000. 

Other auction lots in the furniture category include a Spanish ivory-inlaid small table with foliage, bird, and fruit motifs; a mahogany veneer cabinet with a 137-piece silver flatware set; and a pair of Baroque-style corner console tables with marble top.

Casa’s Primero will also be showcasing an unrivaled ecclesiastic collection, including an oil on copper painting of the Holy Trinity; a Santo Niño wooden relief; a 16th-century oil on wood painting of the Assumption of Mary; and an Indo-Portuguese Cristo Moribundo carved in ivory .

Other special items at Primero are rare antiques, decorative art pieces, and collectibles such as the letter of King Philip II of Spain to Lazaro Moreno de Leon, governor of Tenerife and La Palma; a 65-piece set of Wedgwood porcelain tableware; a large oriental relief in carved and gilded wood; and a bronze sculpture of Achilles by Jean de Roncourt.
