The Taguig City government has designed a safe way to get married in the time of pandemic.
Mayor Lino Edgardo Cayetano led the launching of the city’s new normal wedding setup in a socially-distanced mass wedding held on Feb. 26 at the scenic Mercado Del Lago in Barangay Lower Bicutan.
“The Kasalang Bayan is one of the happiest events which we await yearly, but it was cancelled several times because of the pandemic. Now we have a secure way to keep the tradition going and to wed couples in Taguig,” he said.
He added: “This is a great template for weddings in the new normal, so this event is not only romantic but also historic. It is only further proof that we can go about life in Taguig.”
To keep the event safe for all attendees, the city’s Office of the Civil Registry opened slots for only 30 couples. Every pair and witnesses from their own household each occupied one kubo at Mercado del Lago.
Through this, each couple got to make the most of the solemn ceremony which included wine and cake rituals as well as a kiss to conclude the ceremony.
Cayetano, who also officiated the mass wedding, noted that the program was part of a broader change in the new normal where residents, workers and visitors can safely do things.
“I am so happy that we can come together and celebrate a wondrous and inspiring occasion,” he said
“I hope people see the deeper message in this occasion: There is a safe way to shop, dine out, do business, gather and more. Welcome to the new normal.”
