Nissan to bring Leaf electric vehicles to PH

Nissan Philippines Inc. said it will roll out the first batch of Nissan Leaf, the company’s full electric vehicle model this year, in anticipation of fiscal support from the government.

Nissan Philippines president Atsushi Najima said a niche clientele who anticipates the arrival of the Leaf was one of the main considerations for bringing the model to the Philippines.

“We are primarily targeting two major customer bases. We see that this model is attractive for tech-savvy individuals as well as for the environmentalists,” he said.

The company is also opening up the model for fleet account with companies that are consciously doing their share of corporate social responsibility (CSR).

“Some companies, they put a premium on the environment. Some require the use of electric vehicles or hybrid cars,” Najima said.

The Department of Trade and Industry proposed last year a P83-billion incentive package to support local manufacturing of electric vehicles in the country.
