In a recent podcast, Nadine Lustre admitted that at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, it occurred to her that she might become a showbiz “has-been.”
While locked in, she wasn’t getting enough projects, and she was under stress and pressure.
“I had not much work so I was really struggling. I was thinking to myself, ‘I have no work. I might eventually be a has-been.’ It really reached that point,” she said.
The dusky actress also added that during those times, she also thought of what she really wants in life.
“I had so much time thinking about what it is I simply wanted and then, lots of things happened. I would have conversations with myself and I would always tell myself, ‘Just take your time. There’s no rush. The world’s not going to end tomorrow,” she confessed.
“I realized so many things at the height of the pandemic and one is to just be myself and not to look for validation from other people. I will just do whatever it is that I want to do. If I don’t have projects, then that’s fine. I’ll do something else. My life is not solely dependent on that,” she added.
Nadine believes that the pandemic has brought about new insights to people.
“Actually, it gave us time to look inside. In my case, I’ve been working non-stop in the last five years — always busy, no halt. So, there was really no time to think about what I really wanted. Because I was very busy doing projects and there were people who were telling me what I should be or what I should even wear. There were also people online who would tell me what and what not to do. They’ve put me in a mold that they made for me,” she related.
In the process, the actress said that it affected her so much that she almost lost herself.
“I didn’t know who I was and I didn’t know what I want. It’s like I was lost.”
It’s good that at this point, the award-winning star values the lesson she learned out of the experience.
“I realized that I should be kinder to myself. Before, I used to be a perfectionist. I’d beat myself up when I feel that I’ve not done something perfectly or 110 percent. I’d always feel that I’m a great failure. Now, my perspective changed and I’m grateful,” ended Nadine.

After headlining the hit soap opera My Korean Jagiya in 2017, Heart Evangelista is back with a new show in GMA-7.
The public was officially informed about the project through an omnibus plug during the Kapuso station’s recent New Year Countdown.
Interestingly, the new soap’s title is, I Left My Heart in Sorsogon where her husband Chiz Escudero currently serves as governor. It also serves as her second home.
According to the actress, she’s excited to go back to television and highlight her love for Sorsogon.
“It has an interesting storyline. It is about a young fashion socialite whose status gets shaken up when she returns to her hometown, rediscovers her roots, and rekindles her love for family, community, and a previous lover. Viewers will surely like it. For one, we’ll be showing a lot of fashion and Chanel,” Heart shared.
