Al fresco but with the privacy of dining indoors is offered by the newly launched bubble pods at Sheraton Manila in Pasay, the first in the Philippines.
The bubble dining concept, where diners enjoy their food in a private dome-like outdoor space—usually transparent like a bubble, has been adapted and used in more parts of the globe since the pandemic brought diners outside of restaurants.
A Dutch restaurant first introduced glass booths mid last year, while several New York dining establishments embraced the concept, offering different kinds of pod, from bungalows to greenhouses, in a bid to offer diners more space while still providing the privacy of an indoor setting.
Last week, the first bubble pods were introduced in the Philippines. Sheraton Manila’s Vubble, a portmanteau of its expansive outdoor “Vega Pool,” where the pods are located, and “bubble,” is frameless, transparent structure that, the hotel says, is UV, water, and moisture proof—an answer to the common problem these pods pose, condensation which are likely from water droplets the diners exhale while eating and chatting.
While several experts raise concerns about small enclosed, poorly ventilated spaces that increase risk of coronavirus transmission, Sheraton Manila says theirs are well-ventilated with open top and windows. Stable temperature from a portable air conditioner is maintained for the comfort of guests.
Resorts World Manila chief operating officer Stephen Reilly, in an interview with CNN Philippines, said that each pod was constantly sanitized in compliance with the prescribed protocols to reduce risk of coronavirus transmission.
In addition to Sheraton’s three Vubble, Hilton Manila also operates another three bubble pods for Resorts World Manila. Each fully furnished pod can accommodate a maximum of four guests and can be used as a dining pod or as an outdoor massage space.
Patrons looking for an intimate dining venue can book Sheraton which offers a five-course meal at P5,000++ per person for lunch or dinner. The hotel says it will also offer specially curated menus for upcoming special events like Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, and Father’s Day.
“If you’re planning for a special event at the Vubble, Sheraton Manila’s chefs can customize an exclusive menu to fit your preference,” Sheraton said in a statement.
Hilton Manila, meanwhile, offers a three-course wine pairing featuring a classic surf and turf entrée at P10,000++ for two in its bubble pods.
