Maynilad Water Services Inc., the concessionaire in the the western part of Metro Manila, has connected at least 141 urban poor families in Purok Biyaya in Barangay 167 of Caloocan City to the Maynilad water network, giving them families access to safe and affordable water supply.
Maynilad noted that Purok Biyaya residents for almost 24 years had been paying for expensive deliveries of deep well water from private water truck operators. Issues on land ownership and right-of-way clearance prevented Maynilad from connecting the community to its network.
Families in Purok Biyaya typically consume around 48 drums a month, or about 10 cubic meters of water, approximately worth P1,920.
Having been connected to the Maynilad water network, the monthly water bill for potable water has dropped to just P130 for the same volume of water.
Maynilad is seeking to extend services to urban poor households within its concession area.
