Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso announced on Monday that no new COVID-19 cases were reported in about 73 barangays for two months, from September 1 to October 31 this year.
The local government gave P100,000 in cash rewards each to these barangays in line with his incentive-based approach to containing and delaying the spread of the coronavirus infection in the city.
About 12 barangays were tallied in District 1, 9 barangays in District 2, 20 barangays in District 3, 9 barangays in District 4, 10 barangays in District 5, and 13 barangays in District 3.
The awarding ceremony was held after the regular flag-raising ceremony at the Kartilya ng Katipunan.

Domagoso announced the incentive-based approach last August 31.
He said that all COVID-19 data come from the MHD, headed by Acting City Health Officer Dr. Arnold Pangan, to verify whether or not the barangay recorded zero COVID-19 infection for two months.
“Ang goal natin ay zero COVID-19 infection for two months sa barangay, and I believe that you can do it. That is why we want to give you incentives,” he said.
The Mayor said that he had asked Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan for the Manila City Council to allocate the appropriate budget for the incentive-based program./Willie Casas
