For actress Angelica Panganiban, it was a new experience doing the animated film Hayop Ka! The Nimfa Dimaano Story produced by Rocketsheep Studio and Spring Films that is now streaming on Netflix.
It was her first time to lend her voice in an animated movie. She plays the title role, Nimfa — a perfume sales kitty in a department store.
“I found it difficult since I don’t have any past experience doing stuff like this. I don’t know anything about the world of animation. It’s my first time to become a voice actor,” she admits.
“I just took it as a challenge. Of course, in any challenge, you should enjoy the process. That’s what I did. I just followed the guidance of our director (Avid Liongoren). He instructed me on how to do the character, on how I would deliver,” she adds.
According to the 34-year-old actress, the director has his own vision for the movie, which he had to understand.
“I’m grateful because he guided me every step of the way. And one good thing about him, he gave me enough time to sink into the character of Nimfa,” she says.
The animated movie follows Nimfa, a perfume sales kitty in a department store whose living-in with her boyfriend Roger (Robin Padilla), a mongrel. Nimfa dreams of improving her life and rise above poverty but Roger is already content with a simple life. Then Nimfa meets Iñigo Villanueva (Sam Milby), a rich business dog. Things get complicated from that point.
“Nimfa and I have so much in common. Only, I haven’t cheated in my relationships. I don’t want to hurt another person. Definitely, I don’t want to achieve that. But Nimfa is such a relatable character. I understand her predicament in the film. In real life, all of us have our own dreams. We want this and that. Life is really like that, right? We learn the hard way,” she says of her character.
Apart from Robin and Sam, Hayop Ka also features the voices of Piolo Pascual, Eugene Domingo, Empoy Marquez, Arci Muñoz, Yeng Constantino, Moira dela Torre, and Bb. Joyce Bernal.
