Balanga promotes farming in the city

Balanga City, Bataan—Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the city government through the leadership of Mayor Francis Garcia and Vice Mayor Vianca Venzon-Gonzon is continuously promoting farming in the city.

Wanting to recognize the contribution of local farmers to community development and inspire residents to go into farming, Garcia and Venzon-Gozon launched a program celebrating local farmers dubbed "Farmer of the Week."

The group Tupad Kaanib in Barangay San Jose, in line with the city government program, has converted trash areas into vegetable gardens in the barangay. The group also promotes backyard vegetable farming.

“Mayor Garcia and Vice Mayor Venzon-Gozon commend Tupad Kaanid group for effectively supporting the farming program in the city,” said the City Agriculture Office in a statement.

“The group was cited Farmer of the Week and received simple prizes from the mayor and the vice mayor,” it added.

Tupad Kaanib in Brgy. San Jose is headed by Kagawad Evangeline Alcantara. Garcia and Venzon-Gozon are pushing for agricultural development in the city with members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
