It is possible for the Philippine Basketball Association to resume the 2020 Philippine Cup by September.
Commissioner Willie Marcial said this after the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) allowed the resumption of practices for basketball and football.
“Kung pinayagan na tayong makapag-practice. Siyempre dahan-dahan lang dun. Sana, sa September o sa October na,” said Marcial.
PBA chairman Ricky Vargas is set to call a special board to discuss the decision.
“Kung makakalaro na tayo, malaking bagay ito,” said Marcial.
The PBA commissioner said he is now getting in touch with club owners, and scrimmages will most like resume in the latter part of the month.
Before that, a meeting among managers and coaches is set to take place to discuss the protocols that have been handed down for the PBA teams to be able to do scrimmages.
The protocols were forwarded by the Philippine Sports Commission and the Games and Amusements Board last month.
And these were done following consultations with various national sports associations.
Under a General Enhanced Community Quarantine (GCQ), practice sessions will be limited to just five athletes on the floor in basketball, and in the field for football.
In a Modified GCQ setup, as many as 10 athletes can do workouts together.
