Reigning International Boxing Federation world super flyweight world champion Jerwin Ancajas said he hopes to stay in the 115-lbs category for as long as possible.

“Para sa akin sir mas gusto ko pang manatili muna sa 115 hangga’t hindi ko pa po nakakaharap ‘yung ibang champion sa 115, lalo na ‘yung mga may pangalan talaga sa 115,” said Ancajas, who is awaiting his title defense.

Ancajas, who has a win-draw-loss fight record of 32-1-2, (22 knockouts), is set to go for the ninth defense of his world title against Jonathan Javier Rodriguez.

The Mexican slugger, who has a record of 21 wins and a loss (15 KOs), will take on Ancajas next month.

With the date and venue of the fight still to be determined, trainer and manager Joven Jimenez believes that it’s still best for Ancajas to prepare in the Philippines, instead of doing it in the United States.

“Mas maganda dito, nandito ‘yung pamilya namin, mas masaya at marami kang kasama. Kung sa US, dalawa lang kami, ‘yun ang mahirap. ‘Yun ang mahirap pag malayo eh,” said Jimenez.

Team Ancajas is scheduled to fly to the United States to finalize the details of the contract.

Two sparring partners will help Ancajas prepare for his fight.
