DOJ identifies man who threatened to rape Frankie

The Department of Justice has ascertained the identity and location of the netizen who allegedly threatened online to rape Frankie Pangilinan, daughter of actress Sharon Cuneta and Senator Francis Pangilinan.

Justice Undersecretary Markk Perete disclosed that the DOJ’s Office of the Cybercrime has also requested Facebook to preserve the contents of the account where the threat was supposedly made pending the filing of a complaint by the offended party.

“The DOJ-Office of Cybercrime has ascertained the identity and location of the person who allegedly threatened Frankie Pangilinan. It has also made a request for Facebook to preserve the content of the account pending the filing of the complaint by the offended party,” Perete said, in a text message to reporters.

“Should a complaint be filed, law enforcers may apply for a warrant to disclose computer data and a request for extradition, if warranted, may be made,” the DOJ official added.

The DOJ official also confirmed that the Office of Cybercrime has determined the person who made the threat is in London.

When asked if the person the DOJ located was the same person being alluded to by Cuneta in her posts, Usec Perete said, “We have yet to receive reports from the camp of Sharon.”

Based on unconfirmed reports the offensive online message was traced to a certain Sonny Alcos, who’s alleged real name is “Sonny Co” and is based in the United Kingdom.

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra earlier ordered the National Bureau of Investigation to verify the identity and the location of the person. He said this is to give notice to the person should a complaint be filed.

Over the weekend, Guevarra admitted that actress Sharon Cuneta, Pangilinan’s mother, had reached out to him and expressed a strong desire to file a criminal complaint against the person who made the threat.

Pangilinan was known for initiating the #HijaAko hashtag in response to TV and radio personality Ben Tulfo telling women to be “careful with the way you dress up” to avoid “inviting” rapists.
