Mayor Isko lifts liquor ban in Manila starting June 8

Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko” Domagoso said on Sunday that the liquor ban imposed in the nation’s capital will be lifted starting Monday, June 8.

Domagoso earlier issued Executive Order No. 18 to prohibit the sale and distribution of liquor in all establishments in the city upon declaration of a State of Calamity amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, the mayor said that sale of liquor to minors and drinking in public places are still prohibited under existing laws and city ordinances.

He added that the order to lift the temporary alcohol ban in the nation’s capital was in line with the policy of the national government to relax stringent measures.

“The downgrading of the community quarantine category of HUCs (highly urbanized cities) in the NCR (National Capital Region) would necessarily result in the relaxation of some stringent measures and limitations earlier imposed on the movement and transportation of goods and people, and conduct of businesses within the region,” the order read.
