21 nabbed for ECQ violation

Authorities arrested at least 21 residents of Paranaque City for violating the 89-hour calibrated lockdown imposed by the local government in two populated streets in Barangay San Dionisio.

Parañaque PNP Chief Police Col. Robin King Sarmiento said the violators were taken to designated facilities in the barangay for booking procedures.

He said the first offenders would serve a 24-hour community service in the entire barangay.

Sarmiento said some of the arrested individuals would be charged for violations of Republic Act 11332 or non-cooperation during a health crisis, disobedience to persons in authority as well as local ordinances on curfew and the mandatory wearing of face masks.

Tramo I and Tramo II in Barangay San Dionisio were placed under the 89-hour hard lockdown at 6 a.m. on Thursday, until midnight of Saturday, as ordered by Mayor Edwin Olivarez to prevent the further spread of COVID-19.

As of Friday, Barangay San Dionisio has a total of 117 cases of COVID-19 with 40 active cases and 75 recoveries while two fatalities. Joel Zurbano

“Everyday, according to our health office, the COVID-19 cases in Tramo I and II is increasing,” Olivarez said.

Sarmiento said the lockdown would enable the city government to conduct disease surveillance, verification and rapid mass testing to prevent the virus from spreading.
