Navotas releases P22.7 million for workers’ midyear bonus, cash gift

The City Government of Navotas on Wednesday released P22.7 million for the midyear bonus and cash gift of its employees.

Some 534 regular workers received one-month worth of their salaries while 1,175 under contract of service and job order got P6,000 in cash.

The P6,000 is double their usual quarterly benefit.

“Amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, we want to help our employees and their families secure their finances and be able to mitigate the adverse effects of the ongoing community quarantine,” Mayor Toby Tiangco said.

“COVID-19 has severely affected the livelihood of families in areas under quarantine. While city hall employees continue to earn their monthly wage, other members of their families might not have. We hope the bonus they received would help tide them over this crisis,” he added.

The city government also released in March P6.4 million in advanced additional compensation to non-plantilla employees.

It also provided P500 daily hazard pay to those who physically report for work during the pandemic including garbage collectors, street sweepers, barangay nutrition scholars, and barangay health workers.

The city also granted a one-time special risk allowance (SRA) to city public health workers who give direct care to COVID-19 patients. The SRA is equivalent to a maximum of 25 percent of their monthly salary.
