The Asian Swimming Championships will no longer push through this December as the Asian Swimming Federation has agreed to have it staged next year.
This is in response to clamors to call it off in the wake of the ongoing efforts to deal with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
“The ASF has replied early this week. And they have agreed to postpone it next year,” said Philippine Swimming Inc. president Lailani Velasco.
Last December, the AASF signed a partnership agreement for the Philippines’ hosting of the ASC, a major aquatics event held every four years.
This involved PSI, the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).
AASF Secretary General Taha Sulaiman Al-Kishry informed Velasco of the Federation's decision in a letter sent to her.
The PSI has earlier acquired the the rights to host the 11th ASC.
Through the partnership, it was supposed to be held at the Aquatics Center in New Clark City, Capas, Tarlac.
The NCC athletes village is currently being used as a quarantine facility for overseas Filipino workers who are being isolated and looked into as probable COVID-19 cases.
Velasco said they are awaiting advise from the government and the Interagency Task Force for Infectious Diseases on when they can proceed with their activities again.
And this includes the staging of both national and international events.
