International football meets throughout the Southeast Asian region have been postponed.
Officials at the Philippine Football Federation said the decision was made by the ASEAN Football Federation last Wednesday.
The postponement of these events, which were slated for the next four months, was due to ongoing efforts to stop the coronavirus pandemic.
This is in compliance of the decisions made by International Football Federation and Asian Football Confederation to put off the dates of their competitions for another time.
Among those that were included are the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Qualifiers, which were to be scheduled for March and June 2020.
The AFC club competitions scheduled for March and April 2020 are in the list.
Then, there’s the AFF Under-18 Women’s Championship (June 2020), the AFF Under-16 Boys’ Championship (July 2020), and the AFF U19 Boys Championship (August 2020).
The new dates as will be announced later.
The Philippines will be fielding teams in these tournaments.
The AFF Women’s Championship Qualifiers, which will be hosted by the Philippines between May and June 2020 have also been reset to another time.
The inaugural ASEAN Club Championship, where PFF has nominated Ceres-Negros FC to compete in the tournament, has been rescheduled for 2021.
Other AFF competitions scheduled for the latter part of the year, including the AFF U15 Girls’ Championship (September 2020) and the AFF Suzuki Cup (November 2020), are set to push through, though.
