GSIS obtains ISO certification anew

For five years in a row, the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has earned the nod of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) last December 19, 2019 when the standard-setting body certified GSIS’s major processes for meeting global standards.

The ISO 9001:2015 certification covers GSIS’s quality management system (QMS) for its seven processes, namely, loans processing, membership administration, maturity claims processing, motor vehicle claims processing, data center facilities management, funeral benefit claims processing, and marketing process for the renewal of bidding accounts for non-life insurance.  The last two processes are the latest addition to the scope of the ISO certification. The certification is valid from February 18,  2020 to February 17, 2023.

“Improving our processes has become a way of life in GSIS.  We managed to earn an ISO certification despite the increasing challenges.  I commend the men and women behind these efforts,” GSIS Chairman and Acting President and General Manager Rolando Ledesma Macasaet said.

He added that having word-class standards in place breeds an efficient work environment which in turn enables GSIS employees to extend excellent service to its clients.

GSIS first earned the ISO 9001:2008 for loans processing in 2015. The following year, it obtained the updated version ISO 9001:2015 for loans processing and expanded the scope of certification to include membership administration.  The two processes were recertified in 2017, during which maturity claims and motor vehicle claims processing were included for the first time.  By 2018, all four processes, plus the data center facilities management, have been certified.

GSIS’s QMS for loans, maturity benefit, and funeral benefit claims processing covers application up to payment to the borrower or claimant; QMS for motor vehicle claims processing covers application to issuance of letter of authority; for membership administration – from creation and updating of all active members’ and pensioners’ records; data center facilities management –  refers to supervision of all facilities deployed in the GSIS Data Center and for marketing process for the renewal of bidding accounts for non-life insurance – from determination of accounts whose reinsurance will be procured through public bidding up to release of the proposal to the assured.

“Now as we start the year, we renew our commitment to keep our processes worthy of ISO’s standards,” the pension fund chief said.
