Angeles boosts anti-drug drive, elder citizens aid

Angeles City”•The city government has intensified illegal drug dependents’ campaign and a door-to-door medical assistance program to better serve the residents of this highly urbanized city.

The campaign against illegal drugs, a signature program of the national government down to the barangay level is now being intensified to attain a drug-free city by providing comprehensive activities for those who surrendered as means of total reformation from the destructive use of the substance abuses.

The national program is being implemented by Angeles City Anti-Drug Abuse Council Council with 80-percent success rate of accomplishment in cooperation with other government agencies and non-government organizations.

Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr. stresses the importance of implementing of prevention and reformation during the graduation of the 34 drug surrenderers Sunday.

Lazatin said that the surrenders graduated from the city community rehabilitation program conducted by ACADAC.

Under the program, the rehabilitated drug defendants underwent counseling and treatment, lectures, outreach program, tree planting and family intervention for several weeks in the city.

“The family intervention will boost a better relationship between the outpatients and their family to regain the trust and confidence with each other,” Lazatin said.

The comprehensive program also provides livelihood projects and job opportunities to give them complete confidence in their assimilation in the communities, he added.

The door to door medical assistance implemented by Rafael Lazatin Memorial Medical Center aims to prioritize the health and well being of the senior citizen and people with disability (PWDs) in the city.

Under the medical assistance program, the RLMMC also known as Ospital ng Angeles (ONA) will visit senior citizens and PWD to give them assistance like medicine and grocery items.

Lazatin said that the city government had appropriated a total of Php 10 million for the same purpose covering 33 villages of the city.

Senior citizens aged 95 to 99 will also receive a cash gift and continued medical assistance from the city government.

Earlier, Illuminada Santos, 99, of barangay Mining received the cash gift and groceries after she was visited by doctors of Rafael Lazatin Memorial Medical Center.

The medical center was named after the mayor’s grandfather.

“We need to assure that every citizen of our city is healthy and productive. Let us remind them that there is no hindrance for them to not be honored and recognized for their significant contribution in the development of Angeles City,” Lazatin added.
