President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday appointed Maj. Gen. Allen Paredes as the new commanding general of the Philippine Air Force, succeeding Lt. Gen. Rozzano Briguez who will retire today, Jan. 16.
Paredes will assume the post Friday, as stated in an appointment letter sent by the President to Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana.
Prior to his designation, Paredes served as the chief of Air Logistics Command.
He was also named as Chief of Air Staff in July 2018 and was also donned to 2 Star Rank at that time.
In 2016, he was assigned as the commander of the 250th Presidential Airlift Wing.
Paredes was a member of the Philippine Military Academy Maringal Class of 1988.
This year, the Air Force is set to announce its choice of multi-role fighter aircraft for defense and border protection, a big-ticket acquisition project.
The PAF was also expected to get its hands this year on hew hardware that included the Super Tucano light attack aircraft, Black Hawk combat utility helicopters and Gulfstream G-280 jet.
