Gener now outside PAR, Helen to exit on Wednesday

Tropical depression “Gener” is now outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) while tropical cyclone “Helen” is expected to move generally west northwestward over the Philippine sea and is forecasted to exit PAR Wednesday afternoon or evening, the state weather bureau said.

In its 5 a.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the typhoon’s center was at 1,150 km East Northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon.

Meanwhile, DOST-PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja in a press briefing reported that Helen (international name: Pulasan) will remain far from Philippine landmass and will not directly affect the country, which also means that no Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal is expected to be issued.

Packing maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 105 kph, Helen was moving west northwestward at 25 km/h.

Strong to gale-force gusts are expected to affect coastal and upland areas exposed to winds, brought by the southwest monsoon (habagat) enhanced by Gener and Helen.

Helen is forecast to remain as a tropical storm, eventually weakening over the East China Sea.
