PBBM puts economic recovery as top priority

More than two years into his presidency, Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has emphasized economic recovery, infrastructure development and foreign policy as key areas of progress.

Faced with the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and a polarized political climate, President Marcos has focused on rebuilding the economy, enhancing international relations, and modernizing the country’s infrastructure.

The President has placed economic recovery at the forefront of his presidency, aiming to boost key sectors such as agriculture and technology.

A top official of the multinational internet service giant, Google, lauded the digital transformation agenda of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. as he expressed his company’s intention to expand its business and operation in the Philippines. PCO

His administration launched initiatives to modernize agriculture, providing financial aid to farmers and subsidies for crop production. However, inflation, especially in food prices, has persisted, despite efforts to address the issue.

He has also pushed for digitalization, advocating for better internet access and developing the digital economy. Mr. Marcos has also emphasized the importance of preparing the workforce for the demands of a modern economy, focusing on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Building on his predecessor’s “Build, Build, Build” program, Mr. Marcos introduced “Build, Better, More,” a series of infrastructure projects aimed at improving the country’s transportation and logistics systems.

Major projects include highways, bridges, railways, and airports designed to reduce traffic congestion and promote regional development.

The President has also turned his attention to the renewable energy sector, pushing for sustainable energy projects as part of his broader infrastructure goals.

The President has shifted the Philippines’ foreign policy toward a more balanced stance between global powers, particularly with the United States.

Early in his presidency, he strengthened security ties with the U.S., expanding defense agreements and increasing American military presence in the country.

At the same time, President Marcos remained optimistic about maintaining strong bilateral ties with China, while emphasizing the importance of diplomacy in addressing territorial disputes in the South China Sea.

The chief executive has also prioritized improvements in education and healthcare. The administration has focused on addressing issues in the public school system, such as overcrowding and a lack of resources, which were exacerbated by the pandemic.

Mr. Marcos has launched programs to update the curriculum and improve teacher training, with the goal of preparing students for global competitiveness.

In healthcare, Marcos’ administration has worked to strengthen the Universal Health Care Law, aiming to expand access to quality services, particularly in rural areas. Efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure and lower the cost of medicines are ongoing.

As Marcos enters the halfway point of his term, his ability to address these issues will likely determine the legacy of his presidency. For now, his administration is focused on steering the country toward a path of recovery and progress.
