Supreme Court Associate Justice Mario V. Lopez, chairperson for the 2024 Bar Examinations, said the testing period remained smooth and successful despite the gloomy weather in certain areas in the National Capital Region (NCR) and in the provinces.
This was the general assessment of Justice Lopez after the second day of the bar exam on Wednesday, September 11.
He visited various local testing centers in the country, along with Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo and the other SC justices, to personally monitor the conduct of this year’s examinations and to give some words of wisdom and inspiration to aspiring lawyers.
“As I visited several local testing centers, I witnessed firsthand the fighting spirit of our examinees. I reminded them that #BarNiJLo2024 is designed to be ‘eksakto lang‘—neither too difficult nor too easy,” said Justice Lopez.
“I am pleased to inform you that Day 2 proceeded smoothly across all centers, with no significant incidents,” he added.
The dedication of our more than 2,000-strong Bar personnel is truly commendable as they ensured an efficient and seamless operations day, Lopez said further.
Among the bar sites he visited include the University of the Philippines-Bonifacio Global City (UP-BGC), University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD), University of Santo Tomas (UST), San Beda University (SBU), and Manila Adventist College (MAC), among others.
Meanwhile, Chief Justice Gesmundo and Justice Jhosep Lopez visited the testing center in the Dr. V. Orestes Romualdez Educational Foundation in Tacloban City, where three heavily pregnant women were among the Bar examinees.
Likewise, Senior Associate Justice Marvic Leonen went to Saint Louis University, Baguio City, where the oldest examinee—at 78 years of age—took the tests.
For their part, Justice Amy Lazaro-Javier and Justice Antonio Kho, Jr. were at the University of San Jose – Recoletos, Justice Japar Dimaampao dropped by Xavier University, while Justice Jose Midas Marquez was at the Central Philippine University.
The last day of the bar examinations on Sunday will cover Criminal Law in the morning and on Remedial Law, Legal and Judicial Ethics with Practical Exercises in the afternoon.
“As we approach Day 3, despite the looming threat of gloomy weather, I pray for clear skies and unwavering resolve for our examinees as they march towards the last stretch of their #MostValuableLaban. With continued support of everyone involved, we are confident in finishing strong with a truly #MarVeLousBar. ‘Laban lang!’,” said Justice Lopez.
