MMDA says info on number coding false

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) issued a warning to the public regarding the spread of false information about changes to the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP) or number coding scheme.

The agency clarified that the information circulating on social media about an expanded number coding scheme from 7 am to 7 pm with no window hours on selected streets in Metro Manila is untrue.

It stated that the existing coding scheme remains in effect, which is from 7 am to 10 am and 5 pm to 8 pm, Monday to Friday, except on holidays.

The MMDA also stated that vehicles covered by the coding scheme are allowed to travel during window hours between 10:01 am and 4:59 pm, as well as from 8:01 pm to 6:59 am the following day.

The MMDA appealed to the public to refrain from sharing false messages or information that could cause panic and confusion among motorists. It also encouraged everyone to verify information before sharing it on social media. The MMDA Hotline 136 and the official page are also channels for verification.

“If you receive inaccurate information about the number coding, please verify it by contacting the MMDA Hotline 136 or sending a message on our official page,” it stated.

The number coding system was devised to keep vehicles out of major thoroughfares on certain days based on the last digit of the license plate.

The system corresponds to 1 and 2 for Monday, 3 and 4 for Tuesday, 5 and 6 for Wednesday, 7 and 8 for Thursday, and 9 and 0 for Friday.
