DTI appoints new president, board chairman of pharma unit

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) announced the appointment of Maria Blanca Kim Lokin as president and chief executive and Winston Castelo as chairman of the board of the Philippine Pharma Procurement Inc. (PPPI).

The DTI said in a statement Thursday the leadership change reinforces the government’s dedication to improving the healthcare sector by ensuring affordable, high-quality healthcare for all Filipinos.

Lokin, a former DTI undersecretary and seasoned media professional, brings extensive experience to her new role, while Castelo, a three-term representative, played a key role in drafting crucial healthcare legislation.

The new leadership aims to build on PPPI’s achievements, including the re-launch of Botika Ng Bayan and the introduction of new product lines.

These initiatives align with the President’s 8-point socioeconomic agenda for accessible healthcare.

PPPI’s pilot Central Medical Store (CMS) program has already generated substantial savings for local government units and hospitals, with up to 42 percent savings on the approved budget for the contract and facilitated the distribution of Remdesivir vials to private hospitals at reduced prices.

PPPI, an attached agency of the DTI, is responsible for procuring, storing and distributing medicines and medical supplies nationwide.
