The Armed Forces of the Philippines kicked off its month-long commemoration of the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) with an oath-taking ceremony on Monday.
In his keynote address, AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo S Brawner Jr. emphasized the critical importance of IHL and the AFP’s dedication to respecting and implementing international standards of humanitarian conduct.
“Today, the AFP reaffirms its steadfast commitment, along with other peace-loving nations around the world, to upholding the principles of humanity, the utmost respect for human rights, and unfailing adherence to the promotion of IHL,” said General Brawner.
The oath-taking ceremony marks a significant step in the AFP’s ongoing efforts, through the AFP Center for Law of Armed Conflict, to strengthen relationships with partners and government agencies and integrate institutionalized humanitarian law within the organization.
