British rock band Coldplay has revealed details about its tenth studio album, Moon Music, set to hit stores and streaming platforms on Oct. 4.
Produced by Max Martin, the album marks Coldplay’s return since its 2021 release, Music Of The Spheres.
The announcement was accompanied by the global release of the album’s first single, “feelslikeimfallinginlove,” which premiered during the band’s sold-out stadium performance at Budapest’s Puskás Aréna. Fans can pre-save the single ahead of its global release on Friday, June 21.
Coldplay has also introduced new formats for the physical release of Moon Music. The album will be the world’s first to be released on 140g EcoRecord LPs, each made from nine recycled PET-plastic bottles. This innovation is expected to prevent over 25 metric tonnes of virgin plastic and significantly reduce CO2 emissions compared to traditional vinyl production.
Moreover, Coldplay has collaborated with The Ocean Cleanup to create a special “Notebook Edition EcoRecord LP,” using rPET comprising 70 percent river plastic intercepted from Guatemala’s Rio Las Vacas. This edition underscores the band’s commitment to environmental stewardship and ocean conservation efforts.
For CD editions, Moon Music will feature EcoCDs made from 90 percent recycled polycarbonate, further reducing carbon emissions and minimizing plastic waste.
In a bid to maintain exclusivity and minimize environmental impact, the first edition release of both EcoRecord LPs and EcoCDs will be strictly limited and crafted to the highest standards. Each EcoRecord LP in this first edition will be individually numbered, adding to its collectible appeal.
Fans can now pre-order Moon Music in various formats, including the special Notebook Edition that replicates Chris Martin’s original studio notebook. This edition offers a unique glimpse into the album’s creative process with unseen notes, lyrics, illustrations, and exclusive voice notes and demos from the recording sessions.
Coldplay’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond their music production to their ongoing tour, which has already achieved a 59 percent reduction in CO2e emissions compared to previous stadium tours.
Moon Music is available for pre-order globally, including limited hand-signed editions, through Coldplay’s official store at store.coldplay.com.
