Sunshine Place, a premier hub for senior activities and wellness, is breaking new ground by introducing Adult Ballet classes tailored for individuals aged 25 to 40. The classes will be spearheaded by Pamela Ramos, a long-time ballet teacher and a pioneer member of the prestigious Philippine Ballet Theater.
Traditionally associated with younger demographics, ballet has long been viewed as a discipline primarily reserved for children. However, Sunshine Place is challenging this notion by offering adults the opportunity to delve into the elegant world of classical ballet under the tutelage of a seasoned expert.
Scheduled to commence on June 1 from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., the workshops cater exclusively to adults with minimal to no prior experience in ballet. Participants can anticipate comprehensive lessons covering essential ballet techniques, supplemented by introductory gymnastic elements aimed at enhancing flexibility and strength.
Pamela Ramos brings decades of experience to the table. She formally took and passed the Royal Academy Examinations from Primary to intermediate level. From there, she went to the School of Ballet and Dance Arts and trained under Vella C. Damian, where she eventually became a junior faculty at the age of 13. During that time, she joined the Dance Concert Company, under the artistic direction of Eric V. Cruz. This opened the doors for her to join the Philippine Ballet Theatre, as one of the pioneer members of the second ballet company subsidized by the government at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
Ramos took dance lessons under Tina Santos, Inday Gaston- Manosa, Julie Borromeo, Steve Villaruz, Maniya Barredo, Nicolas Pacana, Lisa Macuja, Nonoy Froilan, Joy Coronel, Tita Radaic, William Morgan, and Robert Barnett. She also took teaching seminars under Alicia Alonzo of Cuba and Christine Walsh of the Australian Conservatoire of Ballet (ACB) before joining The Oscars, under the tutelage of Bobby Ongkiko.
After her stint at The Oscars and getting married, Ramos momentarily retired from dancing and teaching. But as the saying goes, a dancer will always be a dancer, and for Ramos, dance teaching is her passion so she went back to teaching and now, she is the Artistic director of her own ballet school, the Little Ballerina School of Dance.
