The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said it is studying options to relocate some congested regional airports in the southern Philippines.
DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista told reporters that the DOTr identified the airports in Zamboanga, Dumaguete, Siargao, and Masbate as those being studied for possible relocation.
“We have identified the areas… where it will be relocated… so slowly, the government is buying the properties. It will take some time,” Bautista said, adding that “there are agencies or countries that are willing to finance or extend the financing to complete these airports.”
Bautista, however, admitted that relocating four airports will take time.
“The acquisition [of land], it will take some time,” the Cabinet official said.
