The training was part of the five-day “Filipino Chinese Volunteer Firefighters Studying and Training Seminar” sponsored by the Fujian Overseas Chinese Affairs Office and the Chinese Embassy in Manila.

It marked the first time Filipino-Chinese volunteer firefighters traveled and trained in Fujian province.

The volunteer firefighters were from the three major fire rescue organizations in the Philippines: yhe Association of Volunteer Fire Chiefs and Firefighters of the Philippines, the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Volunteer Firefighters and the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Volunteer Firefighters and Rescuers.

The three organizations, also known as “Filipino-Chinese 3 Treasures”, have collectively around 5,000 volunteer firefighters dedicated to protecting the safety and peace of the Filipino people.

Alongside their firefighting efforts, they contribute to society through schoolroom and medical donations. They are highly regarded by the mainstream society.

“More than 20 years ago, when one of my shops caught fire, Filipino-Chinese volunteer firefighters were the first to respond and rescue. After that, I joined them,” said team leader Wu Qi Fa, who is also the honorary chairman for life of the Association of Volunteer Fire Chiefs and Firefighters of the Philippines.
