30-member women’s U-17 pool joins Asian Football tourney

A 30-member Philippine national women’s under-17 pool will leave next week for the Asian Football Confederation Women’s Under-17 Asian Championships in Bali, Indonesia in May.

Four players, including New Jersey standout Gabrielle Baker will be around. They were among the players who played in their two-match series against South Korea early this month.

Defender Aiselyn Sia, midfielder Alexa Pino and forward Nina Mathelus, who also emerged as among the toughest during the three-month selection process for the tournament, which will be held from May 6 to 19.

Australian coach Siniza Cohadzic will call the shots for the Filipinas U17 squad, which will have a sendoff on Sunday at the end of their training campa at the Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub in Cavite.

Also in the pool are goalies Leah Bradley, Samantha Hughes, Brooke Solis and Xoey Tamparong.

Cohadzic also called up Geline Dizon, Olivia Francis, Ariana Markey, Anna Medalla, Caidy Nelson, Luna Rivera, Aiselyn Sia, Jelena Soon, Ushin Valencia and Lauren Villasin.

Isabella Alamo will be among the midfielders with Francesa Alberto, Rhiuna dela Calzada, Kendyl King, Shien Payag, Tea Pidding, Sophia Saludares and Ava Villapando.

Also listed are Kieran Bradley, Natalie Collins, Louraine Evangelista, Jael Marie Guy and Isabella Preston.

The Philippine Football Federation conducted a local training camp at the Rizal Memorial Stadium last March 21 to 23 to build chemistry.
