The Makati City government on Friday accused a group of Taguig City traffic management personnel of trespassing at the Makati Park and Garden in the EMBO (Enlisted Men’s Barrio) villages now under Taguig’s control.
“This morning, personnel from the Taguig Traffic Management Office (TMO) tried to forcibly enter the Makati Park and Garden. They wereprevented by security guards and Makati Department of Public Safety (DPS) personnel,” Makati’s Information and Community Relations Department said in a statement.
Makati Park and Garden is situated in Barangays West Rembo and Cembo, which were previously under Makati City’s jurisdiction.
But the local government said the said property is “legally owned and titled to the city of Makati.”
The Taguig City’s information office has yet to release a statement on the matter.
The EMBO barangays include the villages of Cembo, Comembo, Pembo, East Rembo, West Rembo, South Cembo, Pitogo, Post Proper Northside, Post Proper Southside, and Rizal.
Meanwhile, Makati City Mayor Abigail Binay on Friday led the distribution of financial assistance worth P47.5 million to 76 provinces, cities, and municipalities affected by natural calamities such as earthquakes, typhoons, and severe flooding last year.
Binay said the financial assistance would go to 40 local government units affected by tropical cyclones Egay and Falcon in July last year, 17 LGUs severely flooded due to a combined shear line and low-pressure area in November, and 19 localities affected by strong earthquakes in November and December.
“Makati understands the importance of extending a helping hand to our fellow Filipinos. In the face of adversity, it is imperative that wecome together as a nation, united in our determination to provide relief and support to those in need,” she said.
Makati allocated amounts ranging from PP250,000 to P1 million for each LGU based on the severity of the damage incurred.
In addition, the city government also plans to offer satellite imaging service as part of its assistance to calamity-hit localities, recognizing the importance of rapid assessment of the extent and severity of damage in the affected area.
“Makati is ready to offer our expertise, resources, and support in any way possible to aid in the recovery and rebuilding efforts of affected LGUs. We stand ready to collaborate, listen, and lend a helping hand wherever it is needed,” Binay said.
