Toni Gonzaga, a singer, host, and actress, has confirmed that she will no longer be returning to the Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) reality show as a host, a role she had long been known for since 2005.
In an interview at Energy FM’s show The Baklitas, Gonzaga revealed that she has not thought about returning when asked if she will be coming back as part of the reality show’s roster of hosts for its upcoming season. She stated that she would like to give a chance to others.
“Feeling ko, may mga bagong magagaling na hosts and it’s their time to shine,” the actress said.
While she said that in the 16 years, she had served as the main host of the show, being known for her “Hello, Philippines and Hello world” line, she believed that the new hosts would be able to continue its legacy.
“Sobrang gagaling na ngayon ng mga host ng PBB and I’m sure they will continue the legacy ni Kuya,” said Gonzaga.
The actress became controversial following her hosting stint during the campaigns of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Vice-President Sarah Duterte, as some of those in their senatorial slate were behind the closing of ABS-CBN’s franchise, which was the network that played a part in her success.
Many supporters of the network had expressed their disappointment towards the actress through several social media platforms.
Gonzaga currently has her talk show, Toni Talks, on her YouTube channel, Toni Gonzaga Studio. She also had a concert at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on January 20, 2023, which celebrated her 20th anniversary in the entertainment industry.
The actress’ most recent stint on the big screen is the Philippine adaptation of the South Korean romantic comedy film, My Sassy Girl, where she stars alongside Actor Pepe Herrera.
It premiered last Wednesday, Jan. 31.
