Upgrade Energy Philippines (UGEP), a player in the commercial and industrial solar sectors, unveiled an ambitious goal over the weekend to install up to 700 megawatts (MW) of solar projects by 2028.
UGEP’s target encompasses both utility-scale and commercial and industrial solar rooftop and ground-mounted projects. The company recently completed a 13.811-megawatt roof-mounted solar power project for JG Summit’s Merbau facility in Batangas City, recognized as the largest consumer-driven solar rooftop installation in the Philippines.
UGEP president and chief executive Ruth Yu-Owen expressed gratitude to Merbau Corp. for their trust and confidence in the company, particularly as Merbau embarks on additional renewable energy projects in the future.
“We are bullish on the growth of solar in the country. UGEP creates efficient and sustainable power solutions for its clients, backed by the strong experience of our shareholders and management team,” said Yu-Owen.
Merbau president Patrick Henry Go commended UGEP for the successful development and operation of the 13.811MW roof-mounted solar power project in Batangas.
“The successful completion of this project highlights our close partnership and teamwork with UGEP, our premier EPC [engineering, procurement and construction] contractor, towards reinforcing our commitment to driving sustainable energy solutions,” said Go.
UGEP emphasizes ensuring that companies and communities are powered by the best and latest modern technology and renewable resources. “We believe that the future energy landscape will be one of 100% renewable energy, strategically located close to demand centers and sized appropriately to limit grid constraints and minimize losses,” said Yu-Owen.
As a solar energy solutions provider focused on delivering high-quality and cost-competitive projects, UGEP handles engineering, procurement and construction, and operation and maintenance for commercial and industrial solar projects. The company also offers zero-upfront costs solar solutions for commercial and industrial clients and is committed to utility-scale solar and wind project development, including battery energy storage in its solutions portfolio.
UGEP is dedicated to supporting the government’s goal of achieving a 35 percent renewable energy (RE) share in the power mix by 2035. Their solar projects not only provide clean energy but also contribute to avoiding thousands of tons of carbon emissions.
UGEP, with a diverse portfolio of commercial and industrial solar projects across the Philippines, has installations in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The company signed a joint venture with Aboitiz Power Corporation (AboitizPower) subsidiary AboitizPower Distributed Renewables, Inc. (APX) to pursue solar rooftop and ground-mounted projects for commercial & industrial consumers in the Philippines.
UGEP is also developing multiple utility-scale solar projects, including a 50-MW utility-scale solar project in Luzon.
