Mediaworks is creating a first in Philippine cinema with the production of GG (Good Game): The Movie. Headlined by Donny Pangilinan, the film has his sister Hannah Pangilinan as creative producer and co-writer, and Prime Cruz as director. It centers on the drama behind online games and esports.
Donny’s real-life mother, Maricel Laxa-Pangilinan, portrays his mother in the film, as well.
“It’s thrilling to know that something in the works for quite some time will now be shown nationwide,” Donny said during the film’s media launch. “GG is a project that hits very close to home, mainly because I have the honor of acting alongside my mother.”
“For us, welcoming the New Year with GG feels like an answered prayer,” Maricel added. “Working alongside my son, Donny, and our executive producer Anthony Pangilinan, and Hannah has been a privilege.”
According to the director, the film is anchored by core values of friendship, partnership, respect, innovation, and teamwork. GG aligns with objectives to honor gamers, elevate industry standards, and bridge familial divides.
Speaking of his passion for the project, Prime Cruz said, “Being a gamer myself, I immediately said yes to the project. GG feels like a chance of a lifetime, allowing me to combine my passions for gaming and filmmaking.”
The cast includes Baron Geisler, Gold Aceron, Johannes Risler, Igi Boy Flores, Kaleb Ong, and the mysterious Icebox. The film also features noteworthy cameos from Kim Atienza, Bigboy Cheng, Jake San Diego, Jake Ejercito, Nicole Borromeo, Anthony Pangilinan, and John Arcilla. Multi-awarded singer Moira dela Torre performs the film’s theme song.
GG is produced by Mediaworks, Cignal Entertainment, and Create Cinema, in collaboration with Smart, Predator Gaming, Acer, Rudy Project, Volvo, and Chatime Philippines. Star Cinema partners as the film’s marketing and distribution arm.
GG: The Movie unspools in cinemas nationwide on Jan. 24.
