Veteran performers share the stage in ‘OPM Stars’

The decades of the ‘70s and ‘80s were often referred to by the Philippine music industry pundits and veterans as the Golden Age of Original Pilipino Music (OPM) for two distinct reasons.

For one, many OPM artists became prolific and productive at their craft during that time, churning out one hit after another which all became musical gems. They even held their own in terms of popularity and sales versus foreign recording.

Secondly, the radio airwaves were largely dominated by OPM sounds because of government support that undoubtedly helped boost the popularity and sound of OPM records.

The ‘70s and ‘80s may have long since passed, but the music of the eras lives on through its artists who have made the sounds very popular.

The one-night,  live concert, OPM Stars, is one such nostalgic event. The show to be staged at 8:00 p.m. on Feb. 21 at The Theater at Solaire, features some of the local artists who have basked in the glory of the OPM euphoria of the decades.

The artists will bring nostalgia to the audiences once more as they perform their biggest hits in a rare, one-night tribute to the Golden Age of Filipino music.

Featured artists are Jun Polistico, Leah Navarro, Sampaguita, Anthony Castelo, Gino Padilla, Mon Espia of Labuyo, Male Rigor, and Monet Gaskell (formerly from VST and Company).

Also sharing the stage with them are OPM hitmen Richard Reynoso, Renz Verano, Rannie Raymundo and Chad Borja, with Wadab singer-songwriters Nonoy Tan and Rey Magtoto.

OPM Stars is presented by Zonta Club of Muntinlupa and Environs Foundation, Inc., Zonta Club of Makati Legaspi, and Zonta International District 17 Area 5.

Tickets to OPM Stars are available in all Ticket World outlets, Solaire Box Office (8888-8888 local 60134), Zonta Club of Muntinlupa and Environs Foundation, Inc. (0916-2371852, look for Ellen Del Rosario).
