China’s electric puppetry threatens Filipino security

“Beyond blatant disdain for responsibility, the ongoing events question the security of the country’s electrical grid”

The darkened stage on the island of Panay unveils a sinister drama as multiple power plants plunge into silence on the second day of 2024.

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, initially citing only Panay Island power facilities, later admitted to the collapse of the entire Negros-Panay system.

Government agencies turn up the heat on the NGCP for its failure to intervene during the Western Visayas blackout, emphasizing the need for proactive measures rather than waiting for the system to collapse.

And so the eerie theatrics begin.

On Friday, Jan 5, the NGCP, having “fully restored” affected feeders and “normalized transmission operations” in Panay Island, vehemently denied allegations of “problems” from unplanned generator shutdowns, insisting it fulfilled its obligation.

NGCP officials now adopt the Chinese narrative in the West Philippine Sea dispute, portraying bravery and mendacity despite being blatantly at fault.

They audaciously question policymakers, dodging accountability and disregarding their mandate.

This negligence spawns losses in tourism, business, and services, with provinces forced to suspend school operations. NGCP deflects blame, casting themselves as scapegoats, urging critics to eschew political agendas.

But what unfolds is a dark shadow play: Chinese puppetry.

In essence, the Panay power outage lays bare pressing concerns about national security. NGCP’s handling unmasks an advancing Chinese agenda, not for Filipinos’ benefit.

The arrogance displayed by NGCP seems un-Filipino; true Filipinos admit fault and strive to fix it. They are accountable and responsible, respecting their leaders.

Despite the State Grid’s 40 percent stake, the controlling 60 percent belongs to Filipino companies.

However, experts warn of China’s ability to dominate the Philippines’ electrical grid through NGCP.

In 2023, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. contemplates using the Maharlika Wealth Fund to acquire China’s 40 percent ownership, allaying public fears of Chinese interference.

Yet, as this incident unfolds, NGCP aligns with Chinese authorities who harass Filipino fishermen: arrogant, disrespectful, and misleading.

NGCP positions itself as the right hand of Chinese moguls, its Filipino executives turned into puppets to infiltrate and exploit the industry—a well-orchestrated Chinese puppetry in the shadows.

Beyond blatant disdain for responsibility, the ongoing events question the security of the country’s electrical grid.

The government must scrutinize NGCP’s arrogance and defiance, as the welfare and economic upturn of Filipinos depend on secure and reliable energy, free from foreign interference and puppetry. The shadows must lift for a brighter, self-determined future.
